California Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an executive order barring state officials from using insider knowledge to bet on prediction markets like Polymarket and Kalshi. The move comes amid concerns that government officials may use this information to profit from such markets. All gubernatorial appointees are now prohibited from using non-public information to personal profit or assist another person, including family or former business partners, from profiting from these markets. The ruling comes after an unknown trader made over $400,000 betting that Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro would be ousted before a U.S. mission to capture him.
