Kavone Horton, 28-year-old man accused of murdering Abdul Saleh, a beloved East Village bodega worker, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon from his hospital bed. Saleh was killed after an argument between him and Horton, who reportedly argued over food on credit when Saleh refused. The incident occurred at Sal's Deli and Grocery on 13th Street and Avenue B on April 25. Customers who frequented the store described Saleh as a beloved deli worker who was deeply respected and deeply loved by customers. The suspect remains in Bellevue Hospital after being hit by his own ricocheted bullet. The United Bodegas of America has installed the 450th panic button in bodegas in New York.
