My 43-year-old daughter, Patti, a mom of two from different dads, is constantly in financial difficulties and constantly asks family members for money. She filed for bankruptcy 20 years ago after amassing large credit card debt and has refused to attend free financial counseling after filing for bankruptcy. Her live-in boyfriend, who earns a good living but provides no financial assistance, is no help beyond paying the rent. Patti has rejected my offers to review her finances as a precondition to financial assistance. Her ex-wife, who also failed her state exam to become a nurse practitioner, has stonewalled my attempts to discuss Patti's difficulties. I am at a loss to know how to help this daughter, who believes money will fix everything.
