A 25-year-old man has been charged with murdering a Loyola University freshman, Sheridan Gorman, in Chicago. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Jose Medina, an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, entered the country illegally in 2023 and was arrested for shoplifting in Chicago that year. Gorman was shot in the head and died of her injuries. Medina is now facing multiple charges including first-degree murder and weapon charges. The department is urging Illinois officials to keep Medina behind bars and has issued an ICE detainer for allegedly being undocumented.
