Warner Bros.’ Ex-Movie Chief Is Betting on TV Development In a Tough Market

Former Warner Bros. studio chief, Michael E. Rothkopf, has expanded his company, Fireside, to TV development, following his departure from the role of studio chief. He believes that some of the best storytelling in the planet is happening in television, and believes that the best talent is being created in television and that talent is diverse and not discriminating between film or television. He also credits Len Blavatnik's team with finding projects with them, particularly as studios are reducing financing on TV development. Despite a slight uptick in TV pilots greenlit this season, he believes there is a potential for a revival in the TV industry, but he doesn't believe it will be as successful as the past. He discusses the importance of staying in L.A. for the sake of maintaining a production local production, and making compromises about location and casting costs.
