Getting answers in a 1960s Las Vegas murder
Published on April 4, 2026.
The Las Vegas Police Department (LVMPD) has identified the body of Anna Sylvia Just, who was murdered in the 1960s in Las Vegas. Sylvia was an acquaintance of corrupt labor union boss Thomas Hanley and was found dead in 1970. Her remains were found in a shallow grave in a desert near Henderson but couldn't be identified until 1970. Calgary detectives matched Sylvia's DNA with her sister's DNA in 2024 and identified her body using advanced technology. LVMPD worked with Calgary police to identify Sylvia's body using forensics and genetic genealogy. The Hanleys were convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Las Vegas Culinary Union boss Al Bramlet in the 1970s. Despite their deaths, LVPPD has vowed to continue fighting for justice in unsolved cases.
