McDonald's is gaining ground in America, with McDonald's leading fast food franchise in the world with thousands of locations across the globe. However, the gap is closing rapidly, with Subway now just under 19,000 restaurants in the U.S. compared to McDonald's roughly 14,000 locations. This comes after Subway closed another 729 locations recently, marking a decade of decline for the once-venerable sandwich chain. The company has responded to questions about its downsizing, stating that it is focused on ensuring restaurants are in the right locations and setting up successful long-term. Meanwhile, Subway is making progress in international locations, adding 1,000 new locations globally while their struggling U.K.
