Cleveland has announced grants for 19 small businesses across six neighborhoods and a community development organization using funds from tax incentives for Steelyard Commons. The third round of these grants will provide about $180,000 to small businesses in Old Brooklyn, Slavic Village, Clark-Fulton, Ohio City, Lorain Station and Tremont. The funds come from a tax-increment financing deal, or a TIF, which was used to help build Steeard Commons in 2006. The grants are intended to help small businesses grow by providing money for expansion and improvements to retail spaces. An additional $100,000 placemaking grant will be given to Metro West Community Development.
