Apple threatened to pull Grok from the App Store over deepfakes

Apple has revealed that it worked behind the scenes to address the controversy surrounding Grok, which generated sexualized deepfakes. The company had faced intense pressure to remove the Grok and X apps from the App Store after users discovered that the chatbot would comply with requests to undress people in photos, particularly women, including minors. Apple contacted the teams behind both apps after receiving complaints and seeing news coverage of the scandal. X, however, submitted an update of Grok that didn't go far enough, and Apple then submitted revised versions of the apps. Following further engagement and changes, Apple approved Grok's latest submission.
