A former University of Kentucky student, Laken Snelling, has been indicted on a charge of first-degree manslaughter for her baby's death in 2025. The charges stem from a case where her baby died at a residence near the University of Virginia. Police found a baby in a towel in a trash bag in a closet and Snelling told them that she had given birth to the baby and placed it in the bag. The baby's birth was discovered at the scene and police charged Snelling with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.
