Eight years later, Apple quietly shuts the door on AI chief John Giannandrea

Apple's former AI chief, John Giannandrea, is expected to leave Apple Park shortly after his retirement announcement in 2025. His stock options, which were due to be finalised on April 15, are also due to his departure. Gianndrea joined Apple from Google and was expected to work on Siri and the Apple Car. His role was almost completely reduced when his retirement was announced, with responsibilities largely shifting to those of Mike Rockwell, Craig Federighi, Eddy Cue, and COO Sabih Khan. However, his work continues to drive Apple's ambitions in AI, with it unclear whether Apple will want him to continue advising.
