The close encounter occurred on a Tuesday evening, with an anti-collision alert triggered in the United cockpit. The California National Guard confirmed that an Army National Guard helicopter was on a routine training mission when the incident occurred. Despite the close encounter, former commercial airline pilot Shawn Pruchnicki said the passengers were never in danger due to their lack of visual contact with the chopper.
