Two people killed in separate Austin crashes within one hour, police say

Two fatal crashes occurred within an hour of each other in Austin, Texas, causing road closures and significant traffic disruption. The first occurred shortly after 3 a.m. in the 2600 block of W. Slaughter Lane, where a motorcycle with a single rider was pronounced dead at the scene, and another occurred in the 13000 block of U.S. 183 shortly before 4 a., with the driver of the vehicle remaining at the time. The incidents are being investigated as the 17th and 18th fatal crashes of 2026.
