Nathan Martin, a 36-year-old runner from Jackson, won the Los Angeles Marathon with a last-minute scramble to beat Michael Kimani Kamau of Kenya by 0.01 seconds. However, Michigan State senior center Carson Cooper, who knew Martin better, identifies him as his substitute teacher from middle school and high school. The 26.2-mile marathon was completed in 2:11:17, with a five-mile burst at the end of the race.
