A report suggesting that President Trump may support a Penn Station redevelopment proposal involving the relocation of Madison Square Garden has mixed feelings among local elected officials. The proposal involves replacing MSG with a new arena on the east side of 7th Avenue between West 32nd and 33rd streets. The president reportedly made these comments during a private White House meeting with representatives of Grand Penn Community Alliance. Both Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal and state Senator Erik Bottcher support relocating MSG to build a new Penn Station. However, they warned that neither the city nor state should be responsible for the billions of dollars such a move would likely cost. The federal government's selection process for a master developer has been criticized for being kept out of the public eye.
