California bald eagle couple Jackie and Shadow are expecting their two chicks to hatch soon. Friends of Big Bear Valley, a nonprofit that monitors the birds, confirmed the couple's "pip watch" on social media. The eggs are 35 and 32 days old and hatching is an "arduous process" that can take several days. The chicks will use a temporary "egg tooth" at the end of their beak to break through their internal membrane, followed by an external pip when a chick makes a hole in the eggshell. The live feed for Jackie andShadow is available at the nonprofit's YouTube page.
