A judge in Kentucky has denied a motion for probation filed by Joseph McMeans, the Covington teen convicted of a hate crime killing in 2023, ordering him to begin serving his sentence in adult prison. McMeants pleaded guilty to facilitation of murder and robbery and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He has already served two years and will not be eligible for parole until he has served 20 years of his sentence. Prosecutors allege that McMean and Jamareon Jones-Snap targeted two Hispanic men for robbery, believing they would be carrying large sums of cash as they lacked access to bank accounts. The crime was described as the "truest hate crime" by Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders.
