Community news: $265K gift for Elmhurst U jazz programs, trout fishing, and more

A $265K gift from Elmhurst University alumni and longtime supporters of the Jazz Festival have donated to support the festival and two scholarship programs for jazz band students. The gift will support the Jim Cunningham Jazz Scholarship and the Doug Beach Jazz Scholarship Fund. The festival's festival features top university and college bands from around the country performing and participating in master classes with top names in professional jazz. The 2026 spring inland trout fishing season will begin at Cook County Forest Preserves on April 4 at various locations, including Axehead Lake and Belleau Lake in Park Ridge, Sag Quarry East in Lemont, Horsetail Lake in Palos Park and Green Lake in Calumet City. Free audition workshops are available for boys and girls 7 to 17 years old to prepare for the Academy of Music and Art’s spring production of “Mary Poppins Jr.”
