The Arizona Diamondbacks won their home opener against the Tigers 9-6. The game was marked by a sellout crowd, with a triple and a homer from Corbin Carroll. Michael Soroka made his debut with 10 strikeouts over five innings, the most for an Arizona pitcher in their debut, surpassing Randy Johnson's nine on April 5, 1999.
