The Canadian Premier League (CPL) will begin a trial of the proposed daylight offside rule during the 2026 season. The revised interpretation, proposed by former Arsenal manager and current FIFA Chief of Global Football Development Arsene Wenger, aims to boost attacking play and improve match efficiency. The trial will be conducted in collaboration with FIFA, which will oversee the research and evaluation framework. Alongside the experiment, the CPL will introduce FIFA-approved measures such as Football Video Support to reduce time-wasting and increase match efficiency, alongside other measures aimed at reducing overall societal uncertainty.
