Howie Rose, the longtime radio voice of the Mets, announced that the 2026 season will be his last in the Mets booth, ending his career which has spanned over 50 years. Rose credits his late father Bob for his baseball fandom and his entry into baseball play-by-play. He has decided to retire at 73 years old to enjoy moments with his family while he still feels good enough to create new memories. Rose idolized the original Mets broadcast trio of Bob Murphy, Ralph Kiner, and Lindsey Nelson, and later took over from Gary Cohen in the TV booth. His memorable calls include "Matteau, Matteau" during the 1994 Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers and "Alison's last goal" during a goal sent by Midtown.
