Police are investigating the death of the mayor of Shimotsuma City, 67-year-old Toyoji Sudo, as a suspected suicide. The body was discovered in a drainage canal in the Hongo district of Yachiyo Town. Sudo had served as a Shimotsum city council member from 2002 until January 2014. His family reported him missing late Sunday night and a police search was launched hours later.
