The Orland Park Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation for a stepped-up traffic safety campaign for St. Patrick's Day, which runs from March 13 to 23. The department will be looking for drivers impaired by alcohol and cannabis, along with other drugs, including prescription medications. Officers will also increase seat belt enforcement, particularly during the night when seat belt usage rates are lowest. The campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and administered by IDOT. Police advise motorists to plan for a sober ride home before leaving a party or a bar, designate a sober driver, and report an impaired driver to 911.
