Amazon Web Services (AWS) has caused widespread disruption in the United Arab Emirates, where two of its data centers in the UAE and a facility in Bahrain were damaged by drone strikes. Consumer apps, including Careem, and Alaan and Hubpay, have reported outages due to issues with the AWS infrastructure. Banking providers, including ADCB and Emirates NBD, and Snowflake, have also reported service disruptions. The disruption is ongoing and urged customers with workloads running in the Middle East to migrate their workloads to alternate AWS Regions. The drone strikes occurred on Sunday, with objects striking one of AWS' data centers and causing structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and required fire suppression activities. The disruptions have caused global market disruption, with U.S. stocks opening sharply lower and European stocks and Asian markets falling.
