Legislation aiming to limit dangerous human-mountain lion interactions moves forward

California lawmakers are taking steps to address a rise in dangerous interactions between humans and mountain lions. Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil introduced Senate Bill 1397, which focuses on non-lethal deterrence and increasing funding for research and education. The bill also requires consultations between local agencies to streamline findings. In El Dorado County, there have been over 200 incidents where mountain lions have either attacked livestock or put it at risk. The Department of Fish and Wildlife has stated that the number of incidents is increasing.
