Colorado Springs police arrest suspect after assaulting an officer

Colorado Springs police have arrested 49-year-old Jason Hernandez for allegedly assaulting an officer after being detained for trespassing and theft. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. Police were investigating a trespassing call and established probable cause to charge the suspect. However, as they were about to release him, Hernandez attempted to escape from custody and assaulted an officer. He was transported to the El Paso County Jail on updated charges including escape and second-degree assault.
