What GM, Ford lose when their logos disappear from high-profile sites

Ford's iconic 'Glass House' headquarters, which will be demolished in the coming years, is being relocated from its former headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, and will be moved to a new 2.1-million-square-foot new world headquarters building. This move has been criticized by experts for losing effortless marketing and brand reinforcement from landmark buildings. The Glass House, Ford's former world headquarters, was built in 1956 and will soon be replaced by a new building with open spaces for collaborative teamwork. However, the new Ford World Headquarters is located behind Greenfield Village along Oakwood Boulevard, which is visible only to those directly present. GM's logo was removed from the Renaissance Center in January after moving into its new global headquarters. Marketing experts suggest companies should maintain a high-profile presence in a highly visible context that builds familiarity and perceived importance.
