Carlisle summer coastguard base to support outdoor call-outs

HM Coastguard has opened a seasonal base at Carlisle's Lake District airport to support increased demand during the summer months. The agency's AugustaWestland AW189 rescue helicopter will operate from 09:00 BST to 21:00 until September. The launch is part of a £1.6bn modernisation programme, which also saw the opening of a temporary base in Oban, Scotland. Chief Coastguard Paddy O'Callaghan urged the public to stay alert to coastal hazards while enjoying the outdoors.
