Federal Appeals Court Allows Texas to Enforce State Immigration Law

A federal appeals court has allowed Texas to enforce a state law that allows for the arrest and prosecution of individuals thought to have unlawfully crossed the U.S. border. The law was previously blocked by a federal district court due to concerns it would interfere with federal immigration enforcement. The court voted 10-7 to undo a 2024 injunction that had prevented enforcement of the law. The former Bush administration had challenged the law but dropped the challenge in 2025.
