John Lithgow, the actor who is set to play Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming HBO Max series, considered resigning from the role after fans expressed dissatisfaction with author J.K. Rowling's anti-trans rhetoric. Despite this, Lithgow maintains that he does not agree with Rowling's beliefs and views the series as "on the side of the angels" against intolerance and bigotry. The series, for which Rowling is an executive producer, will premiere in 2027. In response to the backlash, HBO's chief content officer Casey Bloys discussed the series's content on a podcast.
