Supreme Court to weigh Trump order restricting birthright citizenship

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments over President Trump's executive order limiting birthright citizenship to children with at least one parent with U.S. citizenship or permanent legal status. The administration argues that the Constitution has been misunderstood and that the privilege of American citizenship is granted to hundreds of thousands of people who do not qualify for it. The 14th Amendment states that all persons born or naturalized in the US are citizens of the United States and their state where they reside. Critics argue that this exception leaves out children of immigrants in the country illegally. The ACLU argues that allowing this extension would effectively rewrite the 14th amendment.
