US and Mexico tout 'historic' security cooperation as DEA, Mexican officials meet in Washington

U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, has praised the security relationship between the United States and Mexico, citing historic cooperation driven by President Donald Trump and President Claudia Sheinbaum. This comes as Mexican Security Minister Omar García Harfuch met with DEA administrator Terrance Cole in Washington, D.C. Harfach emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation to combat drug trafficking, curb the trafficking of weapons to our country, and reduce violence in our country. The DEA also commented on the meeting between Garcíaharfuch and Cole via its official X account. Johnson, a former Green Beret, CIA officer and ambassador to El Salvador, has previously used his X account to praise the security cooperation between the two countries. However, The New York Times reported that an "unprecedented amount of weapons" are flowing south into Mexico.
