Portal Space Systems, a Seattle-based company, has launched its first mission into Earth orbit, with a piggyback payload that will test technologies for maneuverable space vehicles. The “Mini-Nova” payload was attached to Momentus’ Vigoride-7 orbital service vehicle on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket and landed shortly after launch. Over the next six months, the payload will test the brains and critical power systems for Portal's upcoming Starburst and Supernova vehicles, which will be capable of maneuvering rapidly in orbit to rendezvous with other objects in space. The company's co-founder and CEO, Jeff Thornburg, said that Mini-Novo is healthy and it will be a few days before we get to download telemetry.
