A new policy by the Food and Drug Administration could confuse food labels like ‘no artificial colors’, which previously defined as no added colors. The only artificial colors now count as being those from the category of “FD&C” and petroleum-based dyes. This could confuse consumers and lead to more confusion about food labels. The FDA is currently reviewing some additives, including titanium dioxide, which is banned as a food additive in the European Union due to its high-toxicity. Several states have already implemented similar restrictions.
