High temperatures challenge records Saturday; cold front arrives Sunday

The North Carolina Triangle is expected to continue to see high temperatures, reaching highs reaching the upper 80s and 90s through the weekend, but a cold front is set to arrive Sunday. The severe drought has expanded across North Carolina, with parts of Durham County and part of Wake County among the most extreme areas in extreme drought criteria. The North Carolina Forest Service has issued a burn ban until further notice and Wake County has implemented a local burn ban in an effort to protect areas within 100 feet of occupied dwellings. Despite this, the drought is predicted to last until at least the end of July. So far, it's the driest year-to-date on record at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
