Body camera footage of a Chicago police officer fatally shooting his partner, Krystal Rivera, was released by a civilian oversight commission. The footage shows officer Carlos Baker fatally shooting Rivera, a four-year veteran of the department, as they pursued a suspect. The incident occurred on June 5, a day after the shooting. The shooting has been investigated by the city's Civilian Office of Police Accountability as an "unintentional discharge". Baker was relieved of law enforcement powers in August, typically removing their gun and badge, and no longer has authority to arrest, but has not been charged with any crime. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by Rivera's family alleges that the Chicago Police Department knew Baker was reckless and posed a threat to his partner. Lawyers for Rivera's mother, Yolanda Rivera, alleged that Baker had a history of bad behavior and had previously been removed from the force.
