The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District is offering discounted rain barrels to help prevent flooding and save money on the water bill. The barrels can be used to wash cars, water lawns, and gardens, and clean work boots, tools and bikes. The water is naturally free of chlorine, lime and calcium and can hold up to 55 gallons of water. The state of Illinois is particularly prone to flooding, with 15% of its total land area being covered by water.
