Palestinian woman, Leqaa Kordia, has been released from an immigration detention center more than a year after she was arrested for overstaying her student visa due to her involvement in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. Her visa was terminated in 2022 for lack of attendance. This was the third time a judge had ruled in her favor, despite federal lawyers' efforts to keep her detained. Korda's detention took a significant toll on her family, including missing family gatherings, holidays, and hospitalization. The Department of Homeland Security stated that Kordicia was in the country illegally after violating the terms of her visa.
