First round of school vouchers distributed through Texas Freedom Education accounts

Over 42,000 Texas students have been approved for school vouchers, allowing them to use taxpayer dollars for private school or homeschooling. Over 274,000 applications for the Texas Freedom Education Accounts were received between February 4 and March 31st this year. The vouchers are available for students in Tier One of the program, who are typically students with disabilities and low-income and middle-income households. Parents can use vouchers for tuition, tutoring, educational therapy, and materials for homesschooling. Additionally, vouchers also apply to siblings of qualifying students. The first round of vouchers was awarded to 42,600 students.
