April 2 marks World Autism Awareness Day, kicking off Autism Awareness Month, which emphasizes the importance of early support and inclusion for people on the autism spectrum. At Easterseals Central Illinois, leaders have stated that autism is not one-size-fits-all and early diagnosis is critical. Early signs of autism may include heightened sensitivity to sensory inputs, differences in communication and social interaction, and a desire for early intervention. The organization offers services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, applied behavior analysis, and developmental evaluations. The Vice President of Clinical Services, Eric Glow, believes education remains the key to breaking down stigma and building a more inclusive community.
