California Officials Warn About an Increase in Shark Activity After Towing a Bloated, Dead Whale Out to Sea

California officials are warning beachgoers about an increase in shark activity after a large whale carcass was found off the coast of San Diego. The dead fin whale was found floating 400 feet off the beach in Encinitas, California, and lifeguards were assisting California State Parks officials with towing it out to sea. The carcass had been feeding on the carcass, which had also begun to decompose. The National Marine Fisheries Service is currently investigating the whale's death.
