Meta lays off hundreds of workers amid huge AI spending

The company, which owns Instagram and WhatsApp, is laying off hundreds of workers due to increased spending on artificial intelligence. The layoffs affect teams at Reality Labs, Facebook, global operations, recruiting and sales. The company plans to spend $115 billion to $135 billion on capital expenditures this year, much of which will be spent on AI. It is unclear how many of these layoffs are in the Bay Area.
