‘Sound of Falling’ Leads German Film Awards Race Followed by ‘Yellow Letters’

Mascha Schilinski's "Sound of Falling" leads the German Film Awards, also known as the Lolas, with 11 nominations, including best film, director and screenplay. Ilker Çatak's "Yellow Letters," about an artist couple facing political repression in Turkey, also received nine nominations. Other films with multiple nominations included "Ach, diese Lücke," Simon Verhoeven's comedy about a young actor in 1980s Munich, Kirill Serebrenkov's "The Disappearance of Josef Mengele," and Fatih Akin's "Amrum," about filmmaker Hark Bohm's childhood experiences on Amrum Island in World War II. The ceremony will take place on May 29 and will be broadcast on ARD.
