Ben Parkhurst, a regional ecologist for Bush Heritage Australia, spotted the largest moth he'd ever seen while doing vegetation monitoring at Hamelin Station Reserve in the Australian Bush. The moth, which was longer than Parkhurst’s sunglasses, blended in perfectly with the bark and was hard to notice. The heaviest moth in the world, which weighs up to 32 grams, belonged to the same genus and appeared to be almost as heavy as Australia's smallest bird species. While it was difficult to identify the moth's exact species, Parkhurst was able to determine it belonged to a member of the Cossidae family and most likely the genus Enoxyla.
