The Kentucky Derby Festival is introducing a new tradition, the Runner's Flame, a custom-built cauldron designed to symbolize the perseverance and determination of each participant. The design features a propane-powered cauldron and three handheld torches. The torches will be carried in a relay format between runners and organizers to light up the main flame and kick off the race. Local artist Tony Viscardi created the design and said he was excited about the new tradition. The Runner’s Flame will be lit at the start line for runners to see as they complete their race. The races are set to begin on Saturday, April 25.
