Melissa Auf Der Maur, a bassist and former member of the indie rock band Tinker and the Smashing Pumpkins, has written a new memoir, "Even the Good Girls Will Cry," which chronicles her experiences with bands Hole and the Pix Pix Pix. The book documents her unconventional upbringing in Montreal, her turbulent world of the music industry, her transformation from being a working photographer to a member of two major alt-rock bands led by Billy Corgan and Courtney Love. Auf der Maur, who now lives in upstate New York, was initially reluctant to join the band after the deaths of Hole's previous bassist Kristen Pfaff and Love's husband Kurt Cobain. The memoir was written during the COVID pandemic and was a love letter to the '90s, attempting to reclaim the innocence of the era.
