A federal judge in Sacramento, California sentenced lawyer Ari Lauer to more than 11 years in prison for his role in an estimated $912 million Ponzi scheme involving California solar power supply company DC Solar. As outside counsel to DC Solar, Lauer played a significant role in "the largest criminal fraud in the history of the Eastern District of California," according to U.S. Attorney Eric Grant. Four others involved in the scheme have received prison sentences ranging from three to eight years. The scheme led Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway to take a $377 million charge in 2019.
