Chesney: Pritzker should stop playing politics and put Illinois students first

The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit Program, created by President Donald Trump, allows taxpayers to receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 by making donations to eligible scholarship-granting organizations (SGOs), which provide scholarships to K-12 students. The funding comes from private donations rather than new government spending, which expands opportunity without adding to Illinois' already out-of-control budget. However, if Illinois does not participate in the program, taxpayers can still receive the tax credit, but their money will go to students in other states that actually chose to participate. This is a chance for Illinois families to receive access to resources that can help their children succeed.
