The Lyrid meteor shower is set to peak on April 21, with prime viewing occurring overnight from April 21 to 22. NASA astronaut Jessica Meir shared a photograph she captured from aboard the (ISS) and revealed that she saw a Lyridian meteor shower from above. The Lyrids are made up of debris from the long-period C/1861 G1 Thatcher, which was discovered in 1861. Every year, Earth passes through this comet's debris field and pieces of it burn up in our atmosphere creating meteors. The photograph shows a stunning visual reminder of our planet's protection from these meteors and demonstrates the unique experience of living in space.
