Anthony Chen’s ‘We Are All Strangers,’ Philip Yung’s ‘Cyclone’ to Bookend 50th Hong Kong Film Festival

The 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF50) will open with Anthony Chen's "We Are All Strangers," and close with Philip Yung's "Cyclone," both films receiving their Asian premieres at the event. The festival will run from April 1-12 under the theme "50 and Beyond: Framing the Future," presenting 215 films from 71 countries and regions. The opening film is the concluding chapter of Chen's Growing Up trilogy, exploring the nature of family and belonging beyond conventional blood relationships. Other notable filmmakers are set to attend, including Filmmaker-in-Focus Jia Zhangke, Juliette Binoche, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Huang Jianxin, Ann Hui, Tsai Ming-Liang, and Ildikó Enyedi.
